Volume 3, Issue 1 FEBRUARY 2006
PROBLEMS WITH EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS
Recently our Chapter embarrassingly neglected to re-register with the American Institute of Architects. We no longer are a Registered Provider with the AIA/CES. As of our February meeting, our Seminar has been updated to be a PowerPoint presentation of over one hour and fifteen minutes. All the necessary forms have been filled out and a sample of our "Metalworking Reference Manual" will shortly be forwarded to the AIA/CES for approval. This time we will be using the Chapter Visa card for payment.
The new seminar is the full 52 page "Metal Finishing - An Introduction" that we copyrighted in 2001 and printed into the Manual. This is the reason why the AIA/CES logo has disappeared from our letterhead and website. Once approved, we will look to present the seminar at local AIA shows and events.
exhibiting at a local aia trade show
Two local sections of the AIA , the Architects League of Northern New Jersey and the Newark and Suburban Architects, are hosting their 17th annual "Architects Trade Show 2006. The show will be held at the Marriott at Glenpointe in Teaneck, New Jersey on Thursday May 11th from 4:00pm until 7:30pm. The 800 architects, associates and allied members who constitute the hosting AIA sections will be notified of the event. Additionally, related professional and building associations will also be invited.
The Northeast Chapter has exhibited and provided an Educational Seminar at this event in the past. At the February meeting of our Chapter, it was voted on to exhibit once again at this show. We already own a booth display, and the manuals could be handed out to the attendees. We are in need of members who can help with the set up [starting at noon until 4pm] as well as manning the booth during the show.
Exhibitors will be representing NOMMA and the Northeast Chapter. Therefore no business cards, company shirts or related literature will be allowed to be distributed. We will print a DIRECTORY of all Northeast Chapter Members will a bio and contact info on each individual firm for distribution at the event. With the Manual, Directory and staff available to answer questions, we can effectively make an impression at the Show.
Chapter to fund meeting food bills
Another topic voted on at the February meeting was to start funding refreshments and lunch at Chapter events. In the past, not only did a hosting shop shut down its Saturday work schedule but also had to pay for food at meetings, unless a willing supplier member was willing to pick up the tab. Our Chapter funds really don't have many expenses to handle, so it was decided to start reimbursing the host member for food.
