Volume 2, Issue 2    APRIL 2003

Chapter meeting at Architectural Iron Designs and Papp iron works

Business--
Chapter off probation- now in good standing with National. Chapter members need
not be concerned with Chapter- National relationship.

Discussed proposed slate of officers for coming 2003-04:

President - Tom Zuzik, Artistic Railings, Garfield, NJ
Vice Pres-- Sharon Picard, South Attleboro Welding, South Attleboro , MA
Sect/Treasurer-- Leah Majka, Majka Railing Company, Paterson, NJ
Supplier Director-- Bob Balchunas, Advanced Cutting Services, Roselle, NJ
Chapter Rep to National Board-- Keith Majka, Majka Railing Company, Paterson, NJ

No one had any objections to the proposed slate. Ballots will be mailed shortly.

AIA Seminar—Updates provided by Rich Dantoni, Julius Blum & Co., Inc., about the seminar now scripted and in process of being fine-tuned with a possibility that it could be conducted on the Internet in a game show format.  Rich requested everyone’s help in finding appropriate venues to conduct the seminar. It was proposed that we conduct the seminar at METALfab 2004.  It was discussed that we should consider the Atlantic City’s Home Builders Show.  This is a trade show not a seminar.

Committee -- Alan Papp will look into cost of participating in AC Show. Rich Dantoni  will look into what is needed for the tabletop/ booth display.

Web Site -- We now have no pop up ads.  Rich Dantoni will be getting assistance
from Ray from Craftsman Railings, Jay Shay fro Architectural Iron Designs, and Bob from Advanced Cutting Services to revamp and maintain site.

Metals Museum -- A question was brought up, “What is Nationals position in reference to the Metals Museum?”  Keith Majka responded that he was unsure except that there is no more funding from National to the Museum.  Keith will call National and report back next meeting.

Open Discussion -- Victor Carrollo of V&R Designs expressed his happiness about having a chapter meeting (attending his first) and was very enthused about local members getting together discussing the business.

Tom Zuzik, Artistic Railings, has been researching and compiling info for National to have METALfab in the Meadowlands area and will send findings to National or will be sending the information with our new chapter representative for the next board meeting.

Adjourned business portion of the meeting.

Broke for lunch that was provided by Architectural Iron Designs and Papp Iron
Works.  An additional group of non-NOMMA members joined us at lunch and enjoyed the rest of the day’s activities.  After lunch, Alan Papp took us for a tour of his structural fabrication shop.  We then went back to Architectural Designs warehouse for a tour. After the tour we had fabricators show photos of jobs they had built and the difficulties and techniques utilized to erect their work.

Ed Mack of Fine Architectural Metalsmiths, Frank Carfaro of Carfaro Brothers Iron Works.,  Dimitri Galitzine of Design Development Assoc.,  Rod Ouellette of Rod’s Welding and Fabricating, were members who conducted their presentations for the group.

The meeting  concluded at about 3:30 pm.
